Chaophraya Leeds now open...

Leeds Chaophraya is the original in the rapidly expanding Chao restaurant chain owned by Martin Stead and Kim Kaewkraikhot this, coupled with the fact that Leeds is Mr Stead's home town, meant JMDA had to produce something very special. Following on the heels of the opulent Glasgow site, this was no small challenge.

The original and successful Leeds site was housed within the first floor of the mixed use development Blayds Court and when the ground floor, a former high-end furniture store, became available the owners grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Throughout the restaurant there is a feeling of relaxed sophistication and style, whilst the Palm Sugar bar captures the energy and ambition which Leeds is famous for.

Chaophraya Leeds has written another successful chapter in the evolution of the chain.

The Marine Hotel - Phase 2 Under Construction...

Look what JMDA are doing at the seaside even during the winter...!

The Marine Hotel - Phase 1 Complete...

Phase 1 of this flagship development for Shepherd Neame is now complete and Phase 2 is well underway, encompassing the complete refurbishment of the 60 bedroom property.

JMDA have employed the obvious Nautical theme for this sea-front property but given it a 21st Century twist with a New England influence...

Marriott Hotels

Almost a decade on from JMDA creating the ZEST scheme throughout Marriott Hotels, we are continuing to rollout & take Marriott forward pushing the brand towards the latest TEMPO concept.

Due to open Christmas 2012...

Chaophraya Edinburgh

Chaophraya Edinburgh is now open...

Situated on Castle Street, this 4th floor restaurant boasts a rooftop terrace with, at one end, uninterrupted views of the castle. JMDA wanted to make a year-round use of the USP and have incorporated a 'glass-box' extension working closely with glass specialists and structural engineers to create a state of the art extension.

Enabling works for this included inserting new steelwork in the floor below, which required close liaison with the Landlords to ensure that the recently refurbished office space was reinstated exactly as it had been. The theme for this particular restaurant was the dynamism of a Thai City and criss-crossing illuminated screens and wall cladding have been designed along with mirror cladding to walls and ceilings which doubles the effect.

As usual for this client, lighting is bespoke and a 3m long fish tank features as a screen. An exhibition kitchen with an angled mirror-clad pass features and a floor to ceiling wine wall screen acts as a central divide to one area.

Reds True Barbecue

Creative Design House JMDA rollout another unique concept that has Leeds restaurant scene talking...!!

Our entrepreneurial clients have travelled extensively in the US and wished to utilise their BBQ cooking expertise in the UK. At once, enthused by their knowledge and outline ideas, JMDA worked closely with them to create a concept which wasn't reliant upon American cliches but still incorporated the values of true 'deep south' cooking.

Their first site superbly located at the side of the iconic Corn Exchange in Leeds City Centre uses natural rustic timbers and exposed brickwork as a canvas to 'industrial' lighting, exposed services and feature metal cages displaying products. A moody bohemian bar area has been incorporated to one side which is proving popular for both pre-food and post-food drinks.

Quasi-religious iconography as a feature to menus and general branding giving the concept a memorable twist...

Chaophraya Glasgow

The largest Thai Restaurant in Europe... Creative Design House JMDA unveil a truly stunning addition to the Chaophraya portfolio.

Located in the neglected Grade A* Townhouse building on Buchannan Street and spread over 4 floors, JMDA have successfully utilised the listed interiors as a backdrop for contemporary joinery elements, specifying rich vibrant custom made carpets and leather upholsteries within the Bar, Restaurant and stunning 2nd floor Private Dining areas which are served by their own Champagne bar.

JMDA worked closely with the clients M&E consultants to install a first floor kitchen, food hoists and heating system etc whilst adhering to Glasgow City Councils strict planning guidelines.

Bespoke feature light fittings enhance all areas ensuring that the clients concept remains unique on the high street.

The New Inn

JMDA completed a 17th Century Grade A Listed Coaching Inn refurbishment in the heart of Dorset for Palmer's Brewery, including the conversion and extension of derelict outbuildings into contemporary high-end bedrooms incorporating feature fireplaces and freestanding baths. The property was completely gutted and has been refitted with entirely new services. The interiors have been sympathetically refurbished to a high standard using natural materials where possible, creating comfortable spaces which combine traditional features with contemporary fabrics and lightfittings.

Palmers Brewery have re-appointed JMDA to carry out further refurbishments due to a recent flood which has unfortunately created remedial work throughout the public house, works are due to be carried out in January 2013...

Chaophraya Edinburgh Launch Night...

In this latest evolution & expansion of the Chaophraya brand, and following hot on the heels of Glasgow and Leeds, JMDA were commissioned by their long term client to refurbish this existing 4th floor 3250sq ft restaurant formerly occupied by the successful Oloroso operation. The restaurants layout and appearance have been completely transformed & extended by 330sq ft by the formation of a ‘glass box’ to the existing terrace, providing diners with year-round uninterrupted views across the Edinburgh skyline, to the Castle in one direction and the Firth of Forth in the other. The restaurant now boasts approximately 150 covers internally and 60 externally.
